Brief Trip to Downtown San Pedro

On my drive home from work the other night I noticed there was a new book store named Sunken City Books (403 W 6th Street, San Pedro, Ca, 90731) right across the street from Niko’s Pizzeria (399 W 6th St, San Pedro, CA 90731). Once I had the day off, I felt like going down there to browse through their inventory and I was very impressed with all of the titles they carry. There are comics, mystery novels from the 70’s, and amongst the many paperback or hardcovers I saw a strong selection of Jack Kerouac’s work, ‘Visions of Cody’ being among them. I ended up purchasing four books: “Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “Last Tycoon”, Rainer Maria Rilke’s “The Notebooks of Malte Laurida Brigge” and a first edition of “Wicked” the first book in the series by Gregory Maguire. The owner Rodrigo is very friendly and looking to keep the place stacked with rarities, vintages and new releases. I’ll be popping in there again to see what other gems they offer.

I walked with my bag towards the waterfront where I shot some photographs before getting some tasty pancakes and eggs with sausage in the late afternoon at Brite Spot (615 S Pacific Ave, San Pedro, CA 90731).

Room 214

There was one night where singer/composer/model Brooke Jessen, AKA, B the Flowers, and I spontaneously rented a cheap motel room in La Puente, Ca. We we're either going to record some music or shoot photographs, depending on whatever idea hit first. Obviously, we were struck with going into a photo session, joined also by our mutual friend Daniel Casillas. It was one of the most memorable shoots I participated in.  Check out Brooke on Instagram -  https://www.instagram.com/btheflowers/ Listen to Brooke on Spotify -  https://open.spotify.com/artist/0OIAznvDAzLn6VkANn7LXZ Say "Hello" to Daniel on Instagram -  https://www.instagram.com/daniel_casillas33/

If I could make it over to Uruguay and reach the historical capital of Montevideo, I’d love to catch a performance by underground synth artist VeRa. Born Veronica Ramos in 1983, the native Montevidean artist studied with a focus on  piano, composition and soundtrack creation at the National School of Film Experimentation and Realization. As a multi-instrumental artist, she worked with several music groups before producing her first solo album “A Void Filled with Sound” in 2014 and has since issued six releases, “The Awakening” 2020, “Crisalida/Ocaso” 2021 and "The Fall"  in May 2022 followed by her third album "El Silencio Es Musica" July, of the same year. Her latest single “Judgment” appeared in January 2023. VeRa has been doing shows in her hometown and in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She balances teaching piano professionally and producing new material.  After finding her tracks “Carmilla Stoned” and “Follow the Voice” on Beatport, I fell right into her expressi

Old Photos

We all start out somewhere, right? I'm prompted to write this after finding an old disk with some of my early photographs on it. Back in 2010, I was learning, and going for it. It has to be remembered that even the greatest went through a formative period and had to develop into who they'd eventually become. Not to say I'm one of the greatest, that's for the crowd to decide. None the less, regardless of how many accolades I've received or achievements I've earned, like being presented in multiple international galleries, I can still always get better and go further, and remain humble..
